Tired of getting the best DJ backpacks for your mixers and laptops that seem to be spacious enough to fit in everything you need but can’t hold your things safely and properly?
About a year ago I used to carry my DJ equipment around in common laptop backpacks. Whenever the bags started to tear, even a bit, I changed them immediately to avoid any accident. One fine day I was about to leave for a gig, I was about to open the car door when all of a sudden my backpack tore from the bottom and my gears broke straight away as they hit the ground. For a moment I lost my senses and stood there in shock staring at the broken bits of my gadgets.
That day I realized that I not only lost my valuable devices but also wasted a lot of money on buying the laptop bags instead of which I could have made a one time investment on a best DJ backpack. This could have saved my precious implements so that I could have been performing at the gig I was supposed to be at.
During the hunt I came across many products out of which some were the same as the seller said, some were a real gimmick and others were too overpriced. After using a bunch of bags in the real and hectic circumstances I found my best DJ backpacks with high quality construction and spacious storage along with multiple pockets for the different wires.
Now just to save your precious time from wasting in hunting dj backpacks in market I would take a quick start of the review with a summary of my top picks from the long list of backpacks I’ve used. This review would be helpful for you to make up your mind over a backpack according to your personal needs.
You see? All the dj backpacks I mentioned are from well known brands and under a reasonable price. These bags are very well constructed and are meant to provide your gadgets a safe place to rest in. Now when you are aware about the products I’m going to write about, let us dig into the details of my experience while using each and every bag.

MAGMA Riot DJ Backpack XL
Magma Riot Backpack XL! As the name shows, is a quite spacious bag with multiple compartments to fit in my gears. While it is in use I’m always stressed free knowing that my laptop is safe in the separate and fully padded compartment specially designed for the safety of laptops. This compartment is attached to the back of the backpack. After putting my laptop and mixer there is still some space left in the bag for my necessaries. In short, maximum things packed in a single place. I’ve used this backpack in the rain and it surely is waterproof, saving my gears, as the company claimed. With its removable dividers, the bag is totally customizable and the straps are really strong and well-padded that does not bother my comfort even a bit. The bag is 22 inches in height, 14.5 inches in width and 3.5 inches in depth and the zip around expansion system gives easy access to each corner of the bag. I liked almost every feature of the bag but I also have some minor issues too. At first place the bag itself is of 8.19 lbs and when fully loaded it weighs quite heavy, for twitch the manufacturer should have thought to add the pulley option. And secondly, the price is really high for the low paid DJs. But if you have saved enough bucks then you must get this one as it is a one time investment for a best product that will last you almost forever.

This backpack is a one time quality investment that I didn’t mind at all because of its quality that is on point just as the manufacturers say.
Odyssey Digital Gear Backpack (BRLBACKSPIN2)
I’ve used many DJ products from Odyssey and they did the job they were made for. So I decided to once again trust on the company and purchased their digital gear backpack from Redline series i.e. BRLBACKSPIN2. This bag is a giant in itself. It swallowed all of my gadgets up and still there was some space left to fit in things. I am obsessed with the separate storage for cables that saves my other gadgets from getting scratched by them and saves me from the mess of tangled cables. I love that each compartment is padded enough to save my things from shattering. The bag opens flat to reach everything effortlessly and is capable of standing vertically with its bottom feet. The look of this bag is basic but it works wonders in the matter of comfort level of its padded straps, the mesh to keep the heat out and the supporting strap for extra support. The dimensions of the bag are 13 x 19 x 20 inches, proving it a pretty big bag for a few things to carry. The empty space in the bag can cause some trouble because the weight distribution of the bag is not well balanced and this backpack is not waterproof either.

Sturdy and spacious bag for heavy equipment making it a bag for versatile use for the committed DJs.
Best multiple sectioned
Orbit Concepts Jetpack Remix DJ Backpack
I found Jetpack remix backpack from the Orbit Concepts verily a detailed bag with four separate sections. The laptop compartment easily fits my 17 inches of laptop without any hassle. I am able to pop upto 4 of my vinyl records in the related compartment. I was amused to see the headphone section where I could keep my headphones solitary. And lastly the battery compartment where I was able to stow my extra and portable battery for emergency use. I genuinely liked the sectioning where I was able to pack my cords solely for easy access and without tangles in them. The front panel is customisable but I personally skipped that so I’ve no idea how it would look after customisation. The bag itself on the other hand gives a nice professional look as it can stand without any support and happens with its rubber feet that adds up the anti-slip feature to the bag. Coming towards comfort, the shoulder straps are nicely padded and the bag opens up completely for an easy approach. Its total dimensions of 18 x 9 x 15 inches and 4.34 lbs of weight makes it travel friendly. The only thing I disliked about it is the stitching quality. The bag I got started tearing from the shoulder straps. Maybe it was due to the hefty weight of things I stuffed in.

This backpack has all the sections I wanted to place my equipment separately to prevent them from scratching.
Orbit Concepts Jetpack Prime DJ Backpack
Yes you read right, I got another backpack from the Orbit Concepts from the same Jetpack series. This time is Prime instead of Remix. The backpack I bought was the Prime XL, the modified version of Jetpack Prime. The bag is spacious and almost like the Remix one, this backpack also has separate sections for records, CDs and a tablet. The bag in terms of being capacious is an impressive creation. The whole lot of room in my bag allowed me to gather everything in a single place safely instead of using multiple bags. The dimensions of the bag are 21 x 15 x 7 inches. The padded shoulder straps save you from the pricking pain of straps and for extra safety the bag has a chest strap to buckle up. But the bag is not for a long time or extra heavy usage. Same as the previous backpack from Orbit Concepts that I used, this one also failed in its stitching quality. But other than that it is of great use till the stitches start to open up.

This Jetpack Prime backpack is the one whole room in itself. Extremely spacious for the DJs who have to carry their clothes with them, stuff everything in and you are ready to go.
Best laptop bag
SWISSGEAR 1900 ScanSmart Laptop Backpack
SwissGear is a firm, well known for its backpacks. I’ve used millions of backpacks from SwissGear, even my college backpacks were from them. You might name it as an obsession but that’s true. They are stylish, handy and give me a cool vibe upon every use. The one I bought for my laptop is a SwissGear 1900 ScanSmart laptop backpack. It is a big 13.5 x 9 x 18.5 inches bag with multiple mesh pockets for other little things. My laptop is safely held by the padded arms and back of the 11 x 1.5 x 14.5 inches laptop pocket and velcro support. The dividers inside the bag are used by me to hold my files and stationery. Could not let go the praise for the comfort I feel carrying this bag. With the airflow technology I remain sweat free and the padded shoulder straps are designed in a way that they do not pierce into the arms. The only complaint I have for all of the backpacks from SwissGear is that the quality of zippers is not upto the mark. But ignoring this amazing backpack for the zippers would not be a right decision either.

Best all around
MONO EFX Flyby Backpack
Now the backpack I am going to evaluate is something different from the ones I’ve already talked about and the ones I am going to review after. The EFX Flyby backpack from Mono is different from others because it is 2 in 1 kind of design. The 20.5 x 7.0 x 15.7 inches bag features a detachable laptop bag which I adore because I do not have to carry a bulky bag even when it’s just a laptop in it. The high quality construction of the bag allows me to fit in almost every gear I need and padded shoulder straps hold up great. The equal distribution of the weight makes this bag super comfortable to travel with. The pretty decent design makes it look cool and I can fit it easily under my seat while travelling. I am able to reach the side pockets easily just by tilting my arm around while wearing it and the best part is that I can attach the mobile or headphone cables to my phone or tablet while they are resting inside the bag through loopholes. Also it makes packing a work in two shakes with its widely opening main compartment. The thing that bothered me and might bother you too is the high price. I tried to fit in my large controller which I was unable to, made me disappointed by the product limit that I could carry in such an expensive bag.

This bag is an all rounder as it is a fully equipped DJ bag and when detached it becomes a laptop bag. Highly recommended for the DJs who want to carry a separate laptop bag.
Best for travelling
Gruv Gear Club Bag Elite Flight-Smart Tech Backpack
The Club Bag Elite Flight-Smart Tech Backpack from Gruv Gear has some fun features. While using this bag I’ve no longer to unzip the pockets to see what’s inside, the see through top panels allow me to easily find out what’s inside. I can keep my headphones to the nearest in the overhead clip and space beneath that holds my other small gadgets. I’ve not utilized the hidden passport pocket yet but I’m sure it would definitely secure my passport. The best thing about this 16 x 9 x 20 inches bag is the removable shelves that I use to customize the space I need. This bag has a TSA friendly tethered sleeve for my laptop. This has helped me save my time at airport checkpoints as it flips out and is ready to go through the x-ray machine instead of getting into the hassle of removing the laptop from the bag. But the bad thing is that this sleeve is sold separately for which I’ve to spend some extra bucks. Overall it’s a comfortable bag for travelling.

This flight backpack as the name shows is a good and convenient bag for travelling.
UDG U9101BL/OR Digi Backpack
The final backpack on my list is the pigi backpack from UDG Gear that comes in 2 colour options, black and orange. The lifetime warranty offer attracted and forced me to buy this bag and even after several harsh uses. I do not regret my purchase. The bag is strong and rock solid enough that I carry almost all my equipment in the studio. Not compromising over the stylish appearance. This 14 x 11 x 19 inches of bag really looks cool. This bag had separate divisions for every item, the laptop sleeve, mesh pouch for cables, main compartment, top loading pouch. This thing remains sturdy and stands straight when it’s empty. But this thing didn’t stop over the look and space, it is also very comfortable to carry. It was more than easy to carry this 4 lbs bag, over my back at multiple gigs. The thing that let my excitement down was that some of the zippers were hard to use as they stuck. But that might be only with my piece so I’m not mad at it.

It is a great DJ backpack if you are looking for a nice sturdy and solid bag under affordable prices.
Best cable organizer
Cable File Bag CFB-02 DJ Bag
After getting fed up of detangling the messed up cables every time I had to use them, I came to know about Cable File bag CFB-02 by CablePhyle from one of my DJ friends. After getting this carryall my DJ life had a turn. The extra time I used to spend finding and detangling the cords, is niw slashed and now it takes no time to set up the gadgets to rock the gig. The 26 x 10 x 12 inches bag has 10 slots of 1 inch, 4 of 2 inches and the biggest slot of 3 inches. It also has 3 exterior double pockets in case the inner slots are filled. This bag holds my cables in a perfect way and is spacious to keep some CDs, mic and other small stuff in it. I am disappointed with the zippers they used and the bag itself is a bit on the pricey side accor to the job it’s been made for.

Best cable organizer and storage bag best to get easy access to any cable at the spot without wasting any time. Recommended for the DJs who carry a lot of cables and other small things.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it necessary to buy a DJ backpack?
Yes of course it is! There is a long list of things we as a DJ carry around with us at every gig, the cords and cables, laptops, controllers, mics etc etc. For this we need a bag that is easy to carry, handy and that would fit in our equipment in an organised way that would be easy to access.
Are DJ backpacks different from the other common backpacks?
Yes they are. Common backpacks are constructed for the daily use of things like books, stationery, clothes etc and they are not padded enough to secure your laptop and controller. The DJ backpacks are made, keeping in mind the protection of gears, for this they are fully padded and water resistant. And for organized packing they have related and separate compartments for everything.
Features to consider while buying a DJ backpack
Choosing a best one out of a number of options could be difficult. You can’t buy any of the backpack you are attracted to. Some features to consider while buying a DJ backpack are
Safety of your gears
Always remember, safety comes first. The DJ gears are not so cheap that if one breaks then you can buy another one in no time(unless you are rich enough to do so). Get hands on the one that is well padded and strongly constructed so that it will protect your things from any accident.
Another safety feature that your chosen backpack should have is the resistance against water. This will protect your electronics from rain and the accidental spills at the club.
While selecting a backpack for your DJ accessories look for the one with separate dedicated compartments for everything. This will prevent your gadgets from scratching, will keep your packing efficient and will avert your cables from tangling.
Comfortable to carry
Keep in mind that you are going to carry the backpack at your shoulders and back, so don’t forget about your comfort. Firstly, look for the bag that is minimum in weight because you are going to carry your heavy items in it. Secondly buy a backpack with padded shoulder straps so that it won’t prick your skin.
With all that being said and winding up this buying guide I would like you to keep in mind that choose your backpack wisely according to your needs. All the ones I have mentioned are worth buying, do give them a chance to make your travelling easy with those hefty gadgets. I’m sure you would find this review helpful for picking a perfect backpack.
